This beautiful baby reminds me that EACH of us was once at an age when nothing bad had yet been done to us.
But that changed. Whether in the family or the playground or the classroom – we began to receive harm from others that was NOT our doing.
Our little souls began to experience shame and abandonment and fear. A sense of being faulty – forgotten – not belonging – lost.
As adults we compensate for those early hurts (which we all experienced to one degree or another) in various ways, some good, some bad.
I will not even try to resolve why terrible things happen to some children. But Jesus Christ made quite clear that small children are VERY important to him.
To some who thought Jesus too busy to be bothered, he INSISTED, “Let the little children come unto me for to such belongs the kingdom of God” (Matthew 19:14).
Though you may have developed scar tissue and forgotten those early wounds, God has not. God still loves the little child you once were. He desires to heal you in every way.
Inner healing, therapy, church fellowship, and recovery groups are all important ways God uses to heal our souls. Perhaps not all healing will fully take place in this life.
But a PROMISED time is coming when “God will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).
I trust God for that and I hope you will too.
