Walking in the Will of God

What I mean by this post is NOT finding divine guidance for things such as marriage or career. That guidance can be found through personal surrender, prayer, and learning to recognize God’s voice and interactions with your life.

Nor do I have in mind finding God’s will when stuck or in trouble. God promises that needed wisdom – provided we continue to trust him for the answer and are willing to choose that answer (see James 1:5-8).

What I have in mind is an answer to the question, “WHAT PLEASES GOD MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE?”

I want to present one verse that in my own mind at least, captures the human response that most significantly touches the heart of God.

“Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do WHAT PLEASES HIM. And this is his command: to believe in the name of his son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us” (1 John 3:21-23).

Pretty simple, isn’t it? Perhaps not the doing, but in the understanding.

The MOST IMPORTANT thing in the mind of the God who made this universe is that we trust Jesus Christ in everything – and – that we love one another.

To the extent then, that we TRUST Jesus Christ and LOVE one another, we walk in the will of God and do that which pleases him.
