The Kingdom of God is Here

Pastor Scott Hilborn at Banks Presbyterian ChurchWhen you hear the phrase “kingdom of God,” do you think of heaven? Many people do, I think. There is a connection of course, but the kingdom of God and heaven are two different things.
The kingdom of God is available NOW. Heaven is later.

The PRESENT availability of the kingdom of God is the main message of Jesus Christ. “Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mark 1:14-15).

So what is the kingdom of God?

Jesus did not define the kingdom nearly as much as he DEMONSTRATED it. Traveling from town to town, he taught about life in the kingdom and THEN he healed blind eyes, opened deaf ears, cast out evil spirits, and at times even raised the dead! (Matthew 4:23).

Jesus said these works of power were proof that “the kingdom of God has come upon you” (Matthew 12:28).

Thus, the kingdom of God is “the love of God in action.” Another way to describe the kingdom (from Bill Johnson of Bethel Church) is “heaven invading earth.”

The PRESENCE of the kingdom of God is constant and eternal. The manifest POWER of the kingdom though is intermittent.

When we enter the kingdom, we do so once and for all. On the other hand, the MIRACLE power of “heaven invading earth” is something for which we pray, seek, and believe.

God’s kingdom in its FULLNESS will come crashing-in on that day Jesus is revealed in all his glory. Now we walk as pilgrims through “this present darkness,” so we pray, declare, and believe for the manifestation of the kingdom of God RIGHT HERE and RIGHT NOW.

This is why Jesus taught his disciples to pray in the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy kingdom come – thy will be done, as in heaven, so on earth” (the word order in the original Greek).

An encounter with the kingdom of God will absolutely change everything in your life. Torment will go. Self-hatred will go. You will gain a clean conscience. Irrational fears will leave. Wrapped and filled with the love of God, your soul will begin its process of healing.

To enter the kingdom is to discover God as a loving FATHER. You will find he has been WAITING for you to come home to him.

God will never leave your side. All things in your life, including sins, failures, and unexpected calamities, will work out to your eventual good by your Father in heaven. No crisis, no sin, no person, no demon will ever take you away from God.

Would you like to enter the kingdom of God? You may do so this very moment.

How? Place your confidence in Jesus Christ. ENTRUST yourself to him. Release your past, your present, and your future to him.

Begin not only to believe IN him, but also to BELIEVE him. Take him at his word in Scripture. Begin to learn how to recognize when he is speaking to you and how to follow the lead of his Holy Spirit.

You will be surprised to find that certain wrong things you enjoyed in the past no longer seem as appealing. Even more surprising, you will find yourself WANTING to do what is right. Each day will become a little bit of an adventure to see how God will let you know he is there with you.

Rest yourself in Jesus Christ. Invite him into your life to forgive you, to fill you with his presence, and to take charge of you.

The kingdom of God is available to you on the basis of God’s mercy, not on your behavior. So do not hesitate!

For many people, having a form of prayer is a helpful way to take this act of faith. The following seven-minute video can help you do just that.
